Spooky confluence is nothing to fear

IT WON'T happen again for another 35 years, so you had better look out tonight when the full moon meets Black Friday.

For the superstitious, Friday the 13th is a time when black cats are the enemy and bad luck is about, especially if Jason Voorhees has anything to do with it (see the horror film, Friday the 13th).

And it's the lunatics (get it? lunar-tics) who create some work for paramedics and police when the full moon comes out.

But it's all in the way you look at it, especially through open eyes, according to intuitive guide to health Natasha Symons.

Ms Symons said tonight's full moon fortune was something to embrace and nothing to fear.

She said despite the folk lore, the number 13 was traditionally a day linked closely to the planet Venus and to women; particularly healers and those in touch with natural cycles.

The full moon is also linked closely to women and good luck, making tonight a powerful time for females.

Ms Symons said this particular full moon was the third of three powerful full moons that occur in a cycle annually and was linked with unity and community.

However, she did say a full moon did bring out, as many people say, lunatics.

She said it's no wonder the full moon evokes so much activity though, explaining that if the moon has such a powerful effect on tides, then it too has an impact on the people, as like the planet, more than half the human body is comprised of water.

She said instead of avoiding cracks in the footpath, black cats and ladders, the open-minded could instead try to harness the power of the full moon, which has power over many aspects of life, including growth.

Owner of Magicality, Di Woodstock, said there would be people around the region embracing tonight's "good will" moon.

"There would definitely be people that would come together to honour the cycles, normal, everyday people," she said.

As for those expecting to spend today on tenterhooks, Ms Woodstock said that kind of bad luck was all influenced by the mind.

"The mind is so powerful. We go where our thoughts go."

Friday the 13th bringing anything but fear - it really is something to think about.

And if nothing else enjoy the extra light the moon will pour upon our region tonight. Women can learn more about the moon's cycles at women's circles, Monday and Thursdays, 10am at Magicality.

Be in sync

GROW your hair longer quicker by cutting it as the full moon waxes to bring on faster growth; but wax your legs when the full moon wanes to slow the growth of hair. Same goes for planting seeds and mowing the lawn.
