Herbs are nature's 'green' insurance
HERBS. Many of us just sprinkle them onto food to add a bit of flavour, but to Isabell Shipard herbs are much more than a garnish.
For more than 30 years, Isabell has imparted her knowledge and passion for medicinal and rare herbs, sprouts, edible weeds and self-sufficiency.
With her husband Derrick, they run Shipards Herb Farm in Nambour and have been in overdrive as more and more people embrace their way of living.
Isabell's book How can I use Herbs in my Daily Life? has gone into its sixth reprint, with more than 25,000 copies already sold.
"The response to the books from readers has been overwhelming," she said.
"People have said that they are so easy to read, informative, practical, and inspiring, and now use their herbs more, and many have reported amazing health benefits.
"Many have said the book should be in every home."
Isabell said it's never too late to make the change to improve your health.
"The way we choose to live will be the main ingredient towards good health and vitality," she said.
"Doctors and health care professionals will always be needed.
"However, the best physicians we have are ourselves, by taking time to research the essentials to natural health, and making the commitment to do it daily.
"Growing a garden with herbs gives real satisfaction and pleasure, besides physical exercise.
"Time we spend in the garden is time spent close to nature, which is rejuvenating to the body and mind. I encourage fellow Australians to grow and get the many benefits that herbs can provide."
