Stanthorpe robber cops 23 charges

STANTHORPE Police caught a serial thief on Monday night after a search warrant was carried out on McGregor Terrace, Stanthorpe.

After a spate of recent break and enter offences in Stanthorpe, police were on high alert and have warned residents to secure their property and belongings.

As a result of continuing investigations, and the execution of a number of search warrants, police arrested a 42-year-old, at McGregor Terrace, Stanthorpe at 8.40pm on Monday night.

The man is alleged to have admitted to a string of recent break and enters at Stanthorpe businesses including Health and Daily Solutions, Stanthorpe Creche and Kindergarten, Destination Southern Downs, Stanthorpe Rugby League, Southern Downs Regional Council, Lucid Technology, Schnitzerling Real Estate, K & A Builders, Stanthorpe Laundromat, City Backpackers, The Courtyard and Power Tynan Financial Advisors.

The man was also found to be in possession in a number of tools used for his crimes.

The man is said to have admitted to a number of offences and was later charged with a total of 23 offences including the break and enter and a number of additional charrges including drug offences, wilful damage to property and possessing implements used to commit offences.

Stanthorpe Police also said that an objection was lodged against the man's bail.

Stanthorpe officer in charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said police were confident of more arrests.

"Investigating police are confident that continued inquiries and forensic evidence will result in the arrest of further offenders also involved in the offences," he said.
