Stanthorpe turns on spring style

PRIMAVERA is an Italian word denoting the season of “spring” or “spring style”.

It is also a word that has been adopted by Queensland’s Granite Belt.

So what does it have to do with a corner of country Australia?

Well, thanks to its elevation of around 1,000 metres above sea level, the Granite Belt is one of the few parts of Queensland that experiences four distinct seasons, including spring.

And as a multicultural region that’s enjoyed a high rate of immigration from Italy, the word “primavera” is a perfect way to capture the essence of the area’s springtime beauty and multicultural background.

All through the months of September, October and November, the Granite Belt – centred on Stanthorpe, 130 kilometres south of Toowoomba – celebrates Primavera, a season of events which takes in over 40 separate events.
