IF ROGUE One: A Star Wars Story was slotted in among the key cinema episodes, it would sit around Episode 3.5 -- after the prequels released in the 90s but set before A New Hope, the first Star Wars film released in 1977.
However, Disney owners have created Rogue One as a standalone, and its 100-second teaser has fans more hyped than an X-Wing pilot flying into the Death Star's exhaust port.
It will inevitable raise eyebrows as fans react to another major Star Wars feature with a strong female lead, in this case Felicity Jones.
Some fans suggest Jones' may turn out to be the mother of Rey -- the key hero in The Force Awakens, released last year.
Rogue One is due to hit Australian cinemas in December.
