STARGAZERS in the Pioneer Valley are hosting meteor shower parties tonight.

With clear skies and warmer temperatures forecast Saturday and Sunday, conditions are looking ideal to view the Perseid Meteor Shower, which peaks this weekend.

The Pioneer Valley is favoured for stargazing because of the lack of artificial light throughout the area.

According to NASA, the Perseids are among the most popular meteor shower of the year. Typical rates are about 80 meteors an hour, but in outburst years, such as in 2016, the rate can be between 150-200 meteors an hour.

The meteor shower's actual peak is around 3am Sunday morning, but meteors will be visible throughout Saturday and Sunday night.
