Glenn Stewart gets thumbs down over injury

PRIZED South Sydney recruit Glenn Stewart is facing surgery on his thumb which threatens to sideline him for 10-12 weeks and rule him out of State of Origin contention.

Scans have confirmed Stewart (pictured) needs to have the thumb pinned.

It capped off a bad day for Souths with hooker Issac Luke hit with the $10,000 fine ($5000 suspended) and ordered to undergo an education program after making a homophobic slur on social media after the Rabbitohs' loss to the Sharks on Sunday.

On a happier note, Manly has taken a big step towards building for the future by re-signing boom youngster Tom Trbojevic, his brother Jake and Clint Gutherson.

The club, which was in the wars a month ago, is even being tipped to extend coach Geoff Toovey's contract for one more season.

The Sea Eagles do look to have missed out on signing promising young Titans halfback Kane Elgey as a replacement for Daly Cherry-Evans in 2016, however.
