Stop 'muddling' Gillard tells Europe

EUROPEAN leaders need to stop "muddling" and get on with the job of fixing their economies and alleviating their debt crisis, Prime Minister Julia Gillard says.

European Union leaders made a broad agreement at the weekend to address the euro crisis and will discuss the matter further at the EU summit on Wednesday.

Ms Gillard said in Perth today that it was in the best interests of the European nations and the rest of the world that European leaders work swiftly to solve the financial problem.

"The days of just, you know, hoping and muddling through are gone. Decisive action needs to be taken," she said.

Australia survived the global financial crisis without sliding into recession but Ms Gillard said the situation in Europe could affect the world if it is not addressed.
