Student expo in Emerald

THE new date for the 2011 Natural Resources Management Expo has been confirmed for August 24 at the Emerald Showgrounds.

This will be the fourth year for the expo, which was postponed earlier this year due to wet weather.

Each year the Central Highlands Regional Resources Use Planning Co-operative welcomes more than 650 students from across the Central Highlands to the expo as an educational experience.

This year should be no exception with Year 9 and 10 high school students invited to attend.

The day will feature stalls from volunteer exhibitors from across Queensland, as far away as Brisbane and Townsville.

The expo, which is run by CHRRUP, with sponsorship support from BMA’s Community Partnerships Program, aims to supplement what the students are already learning at school with some practical experience and new information.

“We have had great interest in the NRM Expo with most secondary schools in the Central Highlands indicating they will be attending the rescheduled 2011 event,” CHRRUP executive officer Megan Daniels said.

“This is a great result as it shows that the NRM Expo is achieving its goals of providing schools with information that is useful and links into their curriculum.”
