Sunflower Festival to be dam fantastic
DAMTASTIC and the Sunflower Festival are merging together to bring Emerald a bigger and better Easter weekend of celebrations.
"There will be heaps of games for the whole family- apple bobbing, tug-of-war championships, three leg races, egg and spoon races, face painting and much more," Sunflower Festival organiser Jess Ringer said. "(It's) a fantastic day out for the family.
"We will also have the crowning of the 2012 Central Highlands Easter Sunflower Queen."
Jess said the reason for merging the two events was due to the Lions Club being unable to host Damtastic at the dam due to "restrictions enforced by SunWater".
The events will start in the week leading up to Easter and culminate in a family fun day on Easter Saturday at Pioneer Park after the street parade.
"The street parade on Saturday is great for kids and families to watch, we are open to anyone entering a float. It is free and a great way to promote your charity or organisation and business, and the family fun day on Saturday (is) followed by the rodeo Saturday night," Jess said.
The two things Jess said she was most looking forward to was the street parade and the crowning of the 2012 Central Highlands Sunflower Queen.
The quest for the Sunflower Queen is still open and Jess encouraged more ladies to enter.
"We have four entrants at the moment but the more the merrier," she said. "Queen quest entries close March 20 and we also have the window decorating competition design to get local business to compete in."
