Fashionistas frock up for launch

FASHIONISTAS will be frocking up for the 2011 Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival, which begins next week with a show at Lake Kawana Community Centre.

Nineteen Coast, national and international labels will showcase unique designs, from saucy swimwear to eco savvy silk kimonos, retro rock wear and gowns of vintage elegance.

Sally Cook, of Caloundra, will debut her stylish swimwear label Saucy Rose.

Organisers said they chose Kawana to showcase the beautiful part of the region to guests and for its ability to host large events.

The Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival has made its mark on the Coast’s fashion scene since it began in 2008.

Then the festival hosted only 12 labels and was organised in four weeks.

This year’s event was sewn up in 11 months by a core team of eight, with Jacinta Richmond at the helm.

It will include a main group show, two separate product-label launches, a retail premises launch, a model agency graduation and an exclusive after party.

Jacinta said the crew did it for the love of fashion.

“We operate without any financial funding and we do it for the love of fashion, to support our local designers and local businesses as well, all while giving local fashionistas a great week of fashion, without them having to leave the Coast,” she said.

“The increased calibre of designers at the group show this year and at the product launches is something really special. Oh, and the gift bags at the group show – product, product and more product, and it’s all gorgeous.”

Jacinta said she was happy to have Kawana as the venue for the launch on Friday week.

Doors will open for the group show at 5pm, with the parade at 6pm.
