Superliner on road again and gleaming
UNVEILED this year was PJs Mechanical and Custom Spraypainting's restoration of a Series 2 R Model Mack Superliner for Justin Clein.
PJs did everything, including a full rebuild from the ground up: mechanical fabrication, paint, trim, stainless - the lot.
The R Model Superliners were the truck to have back in the day and even now were heavily sought after, PJs owner Stephen Lemon said.
In a nine-month period, PJs carried out a full ground-up restoration of the Mack, including a chassis extension, the addition of a sleeper cab on full air ride, a cab and bonnet lift, an 18-speed Mack gearbox conversion, a new engine, new air system and valves and a full re-wire.
Inside the cab PJs completed an upgrade with new dash and white-face gauges, a full re-trim of the interior, detailed engine bay and driveline and new exhaust system.
The PJs panel shop converted the sleeper to a twin-stack bunk, carried out repairs to the bodywork and completed a full re-spray in PPG Oh So Sexy.
"We also did all the stainless and chrome accessories, including fuel-tank wraps, tank kickers, mudguards, taillight bar, icepack, custom walk plate, side tipper hydraulics, six-inch exhaust and air cleaner wraps," Mr Lemon said.
"This is a real showcase of just how capable we are at producing show-stopping pieces of working art."
Mr Lemon said the brief was more about restoring a classic to its original glory but also adding an extensive list of extras so the trick was to hide any modifications that did not look like they came from the factory.
"This truck was built to be put back to work and, since delivery, it has worked on a daily basis earning its keep once again.
"It was a pleasure to be given the opportunity to bring this truck back to life and we look forward to seeing more of it out on the highways."
