Swans readying for Kawana

RUGBY LEAGUE: Maroochydore have set up a mouth-watering top of the table round four fixture with Kawana next week after annihilating Caboolture 40-12 on Saturday night.

The win continues the Swans' undefeated season after victories over Nambour (16-8) and Caloundra (24-6).

Ladder leader Kawana are also undefeated, but had the luxury of taking the free points after a round two bye.

But playing two matches has not hurt their attacking statistics with the Dolphins putting on 72 points in two matches with wins over Caboolture (42-6) and a 30-6 demolition of Noosa on Saturday night.

They have been superb in defence and have let in just 12 points.

"I am not fooled for a second when they say they are rebuilding and redeveloping their team," Maroochydore coach Brett Winkler said.

"They are the benchmark and are well coached and well prepared every time they play.

"They are the team to beat and we have to be at our best this week or we will pay the price."

The Swans put together a sterling opening 40 minutes against the Snakes and hit the sheds up 34-6.

But a hip injury to fullback Sam Madden just before half-time curtailed Maroochydore's rhythm in the second stanza as the visitor struggled for points.

"We had to change our structure and we went off the boil," Winkler said.

"We flat lined a bit there and full credit to them for coming back."

The Swans were let down by poor execution in the second half through a bad completion rate.

Winkler said his side had to eradicate such errors if they were to compete with Kawana.

"We lacked patience and that is a big thing that we are trying to develop," he said.

"They don't have to score on every single play and that is something we need to develop.

"We have a lot of work to do to be competitive with Kawana."

Kawana are the defending premier.

In the other Division One match, Nambour downed Gympie 16-18.

The victory saw the Crushers record their first win of the season.

Caloundra had the bye.
