Tapping into new business for craft beer lovers

WANDERING around the new Tap'd bar at the PA Hotel, you could be forgiven for thinking you've been teleported into a funky venue in one of the great cities of the world.

It just so happens that Ipswich is now home to what is thought to be the bar with the highest number of beer taps in the southern hemisphere, adding to the already excellent craft beer venues in town.

In addition to Tap'd, Ipswich craft beer lovers now have the option of the Pumpyard Bar and Brewery on Ellenborough St, Alehouse 24 at Yamanto, the Ulster Hotel on Brisbane Rd, and the soon-to-be openened Belgian beer bar in the Top-of-Town precinct.

Open for just over a month, Tap'd has enjoyed some big weekend crowds in its early days, which will come as vindication for the huge investment that went into ripping out the PA's old front bar and displacing a few of the old faithful.

But it seems even some of the old faithful might be acquiring a taste for the fancy stuff.
