Our Team Adem cuts it as Queensland's biggest fundraiser

FROM little things big things grow.

That is a motto Team Adem lives by.

Bit by bit, donation by donation, the Buderim-based World's Greatest Shave team has raised $130,000 for the Leukeamia Foundation.

Throughout the past two months the community has dug deep to help the team become Queensland's highest fundraiser.

The team also sits second on the Australian leader board for the "lose your locks" event.

Community power prevailed as Team Adem beat some wealthy banks and mining companies.

Team Adem was formed by the Crosby family in 2011 when their son Adem was diagnosed with leukemia.

Adem, now 18, says the dedication and support of the 75 Team Adem members have helped keep spirits high.

His dad, Brent, said the initial fundraising goal was $2000, but the team had built an enormous following and he wanted to thank every one of the team's supporters.

To date Team Adem has raised $250,000 in three years.

"It is hard to comprehend sometimes. We don't really think about tallies, we just go out there and do it," Brent said.

"It's not just our family, it is everyone involved in Team Adem and the community.

"This year we had a lot of smaller donations which just add up over time.

"It shows every bit counts."

Adem and Brent lived at the Leukaemia Foundation Patient and Family Accommodation complex for 18 months while Adem underwent chemotherapy. His mum Lu, brother Dan and sister Miranda visited them on weekends.

"We don't know what we would have done without the Leukaemia Foundation,'' Brent said.

"It seems so long ago since Adem was diagnosed and all our lives have changed so much in so many ways.

"We are experts at living each day at a time now.

"Adem is a our number one priority, but he just loves seeing the supporters and he loves helping other people.''

Team Adem has also made 120 blood donations this year.
