A MAN has been charged with raping a 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her 15-year-old friend after befriending them with his dog.
The 30-year-old man was arrested by Ipswich police on Sunday after the two hysterical girls reported the alleged attacks.
The suspect appeared before Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday. The court heard the man was walking his dog in Goodna on Saturday afternoon at 5.30pm and spoke to the two girls about his pet.
Police Prosecutor Acting Sergeant Brad Dick said the man invited the girls back to his house and they went with him.
Sgt Dick said once there, the man gave them alcohol before asking them to play strip poker, which they declined.
The court heard the man took the 15-year-old to buy more alcohol. While out, the man allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Sgt Dick said CCTV footage obtained showed the man "actively fondling the child".
Once home, police said the 15-year-old passed out and the man found the 14-year-old asleep in another bed.
Police allege the man then raped the younger girl, before she woke up and tried to fight him off.
She allegedly pushed him into a bookcase before he raped her a second time. Police said the girl finally managed to break free, find her friend, and the pair escaped.
Police said they ran to a neighbour's house in a traumatised state and were taken to hospital by ambulance.
On Sunday police went to the man's house and located him, as well as the younger girl's mobile phone and shoes in his bedroom.
The man allegedly told police he thought the girls were 17 and 19 and that they had already been drinking when he invited them over. He said they had both passed out and he spent the night playing video games.
Defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough said the girls had voluntarily gone to the house and the charges would be contested.
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess refused bail on the basis of the nature of the alleged offences and the man's criminal history. He will next appear in court on December 7.
