Toowoomba teen Oliver Bridgeman cuts contact with family

A TOOWOOMBA teenager believed to be in hiding in war-torn Syria has reportedly cut-off communication with his parents and counterterrorism agencies.

The Australian Federal Police has refused to comment on whether Harristown High graduate Oliver Bridgeman has cut all communication with his Toowoomba-based family.

However, reports have surfaced Bridgeman, 18, hasn't spoken to his parents for more than two weeks.

Bridgeman is believed to be in Syria in an area controlled by the al-Qa'ida linked al-Nusra Front.

He claimed to have been in the area doing humanitarian work.

The AFP confirmed they are aware of Bridgeman being in Syria, but would not comment further.

"The AFP is aware that a teenager from the Toowoomba area of Queensland left Australia recently and may be in a Middle East conflict area," a spokesman said.

"Due to a number of considerations relative to this matter, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment."
