KAZAKHSTAN teenager Zulfiya Chinshanlo has broken Olympic and world records on her way to gold in the women's 53 kilogram weightlifting.

The 19-year-old lifted 131 kilogram in the clean and jerk - an Olympic and world best - to set a total of 226 kilograms.

Chinshanlo's record breaking feats were too much for the rest of the field, but the battle for the silver and bronze medals was edged by a fine margin.

Chinese Taipei's Hsu Shu-Ching tied Republic of Moldova's Cristina Lovu with a total of 219 kilograms.

However, Hsu's lighter bodyweight allowed her to claim second place.
