Teens assault and rob lone man in middle of Brisbane

POLICE have charged four people after a man was assaulted and robbed in Brisbane City yesterday.

It will be alleged around 4.45am, a 17-year-old Annerley man was approached by a group of youths on the Ann Street side of King George Square and asked for a cigarette.

As the man went to get out a cigarette, the group allegedly began to assault him before he tried to move away.

He was also allegedly hit with a large orange road cone and the group was able to catch up to him.

It will be further alleged the group then followed the man to Adelaide Street where he was thrown to the footpath before being punched and kicked.

Police attended a short time later and took a number of the group into custody.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene for injuries to his head, shoulder hip and hand, but was not transported to hospital.

Following an extensive investigation yesterday, police overnight charged three boys and a man in relation to the incident.

A 16-year-old Ellen Grove boy has been charged with robbery, a 12-year-old Loganlea boy charged with robbery in company and attempted robbery and a 15-year-old Logan Central charged boy with assault occasioning bodily harm.

All three will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

A 17-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with one count each of robbery in company and obstruct police and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Investigations are continuing.
