SO you think you can dance? Rockhampton's Kathleen Watson and Renaye Bradford do, and now their moves have been given the nod.

The teenagers will step up their promising dance careers next year after being accepted into the dance school run by 'So You Think You Can Dance?' judge Jason Coleman.

Kathleen and Renaye start full-time dance classes at the reality television show's Ministry of Dance in North Melbourne in February.

Kathleen aims to follow in the footsteps of former Rockhampton dancer Mary McKendry - dancing for contemporary companies around the world - while Renaye has her sights set on the big screen, working on sets like movies Step Up and Save the Last Dance.

The Emmaus College graduates applied for the school after Jason Coleman ran a one-day workshop at Amelia's Studio of Dance in July.

The girls' dance teacher Erin Pratt said Jason actually told Kathleen and Renaye to apply.

Both girls have dancing in their blood, with Kathleen's mother, a Filipino, having danced since she was a little girl, and Renaye's mother having been a ballroom dancer.

For Kathleen, who started dancing at 2-years-old, dancing is about being able to release emotion.

"It gets your mind off lots of other stuff that is going on," she said, pointing towards dancing being a release from teenage life.

For Renaye, who started dancing at 6-years-old after a few years of gymnastics, it was the beauty of the ballerinas twirling around on stage that caught her attention.
