A CELEBRITY stylist was brought in to overhaul the Irwins and bring their looks "into the 21st century".

Sydney Confidential can reveal people close to Bindi during her appearance on the US Dancing With The Stars encouraged a style transformation.

A source close to the famous clan told Confidential a professional styling team was enlisted to update the Wildlife Warriors' looks, while maintaining the ethos of the brand created by Steve.

"People told Bindi she had to have a more mature look, she was 18 and dressing like a little girl, she was pretty receptive from the get go," the source said.

"It wasn't only Bindi, the whole family were stuck back in the '90s, they had to be brought into the 21st century."

The style transformation was also responsible for youngest Irwin Robert's much needed hair overhaul whereby he ditched the bowl cut.

Family matriarch Terri was reportedly the most hesitant to change, but the savvy businesswoman was persuaded by the team who explained the benefits to the brand.

"For Terri it was the toughest," the insider said.

"It was potentially about holding on to Steve's memory.

Holding on to the glory days you could say. But she came around, understanding that like a business has to evolve so do the people who front the brand."

The styling team was particularly firm about Robert's hair.

"They could not wait to get at that hair, it looked like Terri cut it herself," the source said.

"He has been transformed the most, he looks like a cool young guy now."

Like his big sister, the youngest member of the family is now garnering an international fan base after appearing twice on Jimmy Fallon's talk show.
