Test trio back to bolster stumbling Broncos

THE cavalry has arrived for the struggling Brisbane Broncos, with last year's grand finalists welcoming back three Test forwards for their clash with St George Illawarra at WIN Stadium tomorrow night.

Suspended duo Sam Thaiday and Josh McGuire will be joined in the Broncos back row by Matt Gillett, who returns from a shoulder injury against the Dragons.

Lachlan Maranta, who was forced from the field early in last weekend's loss to the Roosters, has been cleared to play, which will allow young gun Tom Opacic to fill a centre spot, where he is a lot more comfortable.

Bennett has dismissed claims Brisbane is in a slump despite suffering seven losses from its past nine games, the coach preferring to point out the club's terrible injury toll in recent months, especially to its outside backs.

Reports last week suggested Jack Reed, who has been struggling to get back from his latest shoulder injury, may be forced into early retirement.

Bennett had hoped Kiwi-born utility Jordan Kahu would be available this week but he has stuck with the inexperienced but promising Opacic, who was exposed defensively a few times by the Roosters.
