Thank god it's Friday, say Broncos

PERFORMANCE guru Alex Corvo believes playing on Friday night is the perfect way for Brisbane to chase a history-making NRL premiership.

No team has won the premiership from outside the top four since the NRL started in 1999.

The Broncos' campaign starts at Suncorp Stadium on Friday against the Gold Coast, contesting their first finals since 2010 in a local derby fans have been eagerly awaiting.

Corvo said the eight-day turnaround from beating the Roosters last weekend was better than playing on Sunday, which would be 10 days between games.

Brisbane is also accustomed to playing on Fridays because of its popularity, which translates to huge television ratings.

The Broncos didn't play their best football last weekend but still managed to beat the Roosters 24-14 for their fifth straight win.

Like Canberra (10 wins in a row) they have the one ingredient: momentum.

Brisbane skipper Corey Parker said the Broncos had the utmost respect for the Titans, who finished eighth after many tipped them for the wooden spoon.

They're an even better side with the late addition of former Parramatta superstar Jarryd Hayne, who "is getting better with every game”, Parker said.

"Their young halves have been doing a great job as well.

"Ash Taylor went down there (Gold Coast) with our blessing and, to be honest, he has been one of their best players.”
