Development coach named

THE CQ NRL Bid yesterday announced that Lionel Harbin will be Head Coach of the Stanwell under-13s Junior Development Team.

CQ NRL Bid’s Business and Community Development manager Walson Carlos expressed major excitement at the announcement of the head coach.

“It’s an exciting time for the CQ NRL Bid and I congratulate Lionel Harbin on his appointment as head coach of the Stanwell under-13s Junior Development Team. Lionel is an up-and-coming coach who has shown enormous potential to excel as a rugby league coach. I think it is important to note that Lionel is a local boy who was picked up by an NRL team and left CQ to pursue his dreams in rugby league. He has since returned to Central Queensland and given his experience with several NRL programs.

“We feel Lionel is best equipped to guide these youngsters through their development as elite athletes.”

Harbin, a former lower grader with the Canberra Raiders, has worked with the local Cowboys academies and the RRL A-grade representative sides in recent years and last year guided Norths under-20s side to the local RRL Premiership. In 2011, Harbin is assistant coach for the Yeppoon Seagulls A-grade side.

The Stanwell under-13s Junior Development Team will be named in August and will come together in late September and throughout October for a number of camps. The camps will focus on the holistic development of the young players. The team will travel south and north to play the elite under-13s schoolboys in Queensland.
