Hunt reveals Wayne Bennett’s tactics to Dragons for opener

WAYNE Bennett's playbook and coaching secrets are being leaked to an NRL rival.

Ben Hunt, who played 187 games for Brisbane and most of them under Bennett, is now in St George Illawarra's corner and isn't holding back on helping the Dragons coaching staff understand the Broncos mastercoach.

The Broncos open their season against the Red V on Thursday night and Hunt could prove critical in beating the Queensland side.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor revealed he has asked Hunt to help him plot Bennett's demise.

"We've openly chatted, for sure. We spoke a few weeks ago and I spoke to him again about it twice this week. Why not?" McGregor told Fairfax Media.

"He's played at the club for 180 games and most of them have been under Wayne. He's played with all those guys and he's a halfback so he certainly knows what they're about.

"But at the same time most coaches know the habits of the opposition as well to try to nullify the opposition."

Cooper Cronk last week said he wouldn't give any of Melbourne's secrets to his new club Roosters out of respect for Storm.

The Dragons may need all the help they can get this week, given their recent history against the Broncos.

McGregor is the only Dragons coach to beat Brisbane in almost eight years.
