NQ's largest business incubator secured by Mackay

MARK Phillips, who describes himself as a "digital nomad" and keeps motorbikes in three countries, is one of the entrepreneurs who soon will lead a new wave of business people at Split Spaces, now that it has a headquarters.

The business incubator Split Spaces revealed its headquarters - a 900sq m room on the third floor of a building at CQUniversity's Mackay campus - yesterday.

Tomorrow, the renovations will begin to transform it into a workspace similar to the likes of Facebook and Google, to fuel "more than 100" creative business minds who will soon move in.

"Think of this space as fuel," Mr Phillips said.

"To be able to sit at a table with like-minded people and bounce ideas around, it reduces the degrees of separation. This is how ideas can go global."

Split Spaces founder Jarryd Townson who, along with Mr Phillips and businessman Nick Bennett, makes up the three directors, said it would be the largest co-working hub in north Queensland and would offer members two boardrooms, a lounge room, a co-working area, 'break out' spaces, a presentation room and private office spaces.

It will allow start-up and small businesses to reduce overheads and provide a collaborative work environment, and put people in touch with mentors and business advisors.

CQUniversity deputy vice chancellor Pierre Viljoen said hosting the entrepreneurs at the university would be 'phenomenal' for students, particularly through the networking opportunities it would provide.

While there was no set date yet as to when businesses could move in, Mr Townson said he would be in "as soon as internet was hooked up".
