Thomson-Jones an outstanding coach

LOCAL coach, Kris Thomson-Jones, from Yamba is in the running for a New South Wales award for outstanding coaching.

Each year more than 9000 community coaches across the country vie for the 5 Star Community Coach Award in the Australian Government's Active After-school Communities (AASC) program.

Kris was excited to be nominated for the NSW Term.3, 2011 5 Star Community Coach Award.

AASC regional coordinator Bruce Wallace from Coffs Harbour said, 'Our program relies heavily on high quality coaching like Kris provides. It is essential for the success of the AASC program and this award is one way of recognising coaches who excel in this area.

'Kris has consistently delivered high quality rugby programs throughout their involvement with the AASC and has really helped develop rugby in Yamba. You can see that the children enjoy themselves and are developing throughout Kris' sessions, they are inspired to give everything a go.'

The AASC program aims to enhance the physical activity levels of Australian primary school children by helping them to develop a love of sport that inspires them to join a local sporting club.

Kris will compete for the AASC program's 5 Star Community Coach Award against other coaches who have been recognised for excellence in delivering the AASC program in New South Wales

The AASC program is an Australian Government initiative delivered by the Australian Sports Commission in up to 3270 schools and out of school care centres across Australia. Each term, up to 190,000 children participate in up to 70 different sports and 20 structured physical activities after school.
