THOUSANDS of Daily readers have shown their support for the creation of a national child sex offenders register.
Child safety campaigners Bruce and Denise Morcombe have vowed to push for the register's creation in memory of their son Daniel.
Speaking to the Daily as part of its From The Heart - Aussie Icons Speak Out series, the Morcombes said the campaign was one of the focal points of 2015.
When the comments appeared on the Daily's Facebook page, more than 3300 people gave their support.
"I want to know if a sex offender lives on my street.
"They lost their right to privacy when they took something from their victims," wrote one mum.
Another woman who described herself as "a super strict mum" expressed every parent's worst nightmare.
"I couldn't live with myself if something ever happened to them," she wrote.
"This should have been approved years ago to know who and where they are."
There were suggestions signs be erected in front of offenders' homes and even calls for the return of the death penalty.
