Dead on the pavement: Fight cost Wayne Dover his life
WAYNE Dover's killers allegedly shouted out "you deserve what you got" as they left his bleeding body outside The Factory nightclub.
Mr Dover, a Sunshine Coast businessman and AFL coach, died after a fight outside the nightclub following a night out with his wife Michelle.
Matthew John Hill and brothers Wade Leigh Goldsworthy and Blake Nathan Goldsworthy pleaded not guilty at the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday to Mr Dover's manslaughter.
The court heard Wayne and Michelle Dover went to the recently opened nightclub late on November 29, 2013 after dinner and drinks at a nearby cafe.
At about 1am Ms Dover went home but her husband stayed. It was the last time she would see him alive.
The court heard hours later after the club closed there was an altercation between Mr Dover and Wade Goldsworthy.
Crown prosecutor Phil McCarthy said Wade Goldsworthy accused Mr Dover of groping women inside the club and called him a "sleaze".
The court heard witnesses saw Mr Hill and the Goldsworthy brothers punching Mr Dover when he was on the ground.
Witnesses identified Wade Goldsworthy due to his dreadlocks and Blake Goldsworthy due to his shaved head. One of Mr Dover's employees who was at the bar knew Mr Hill.
Mr McCarthy said witnesses heard the two of the men yell out "you deserve what you got" as they left the scene.
Police arrested the three later that night at a nearby bus stop. The court heard Wade Goldsworthy was surprised when he was told Mr Dover had died.
The court heard Wade Goldsworthy told police Mr Dover punched him in the head to start the fight.
His lawyer Simon Lewis argued Mr Goldsworthy acted in "self-defence".
In a statement to police, Mr Hill denied being part of the fight and said he only saw the end of a scuffle after he left the club. The Crown argues Mr Hill was lying to police because he knew he was guilty.
The fight severed an artery in Mr Dover's neck, leading to sudden unconsciousness and then death.
The trial is expected to continue for three weeks.
