Tigers claim football title over Eagles

TIERI City Tigers have taken out the Central Highlands Football premiership with a decisive 3-2 grand final win over Emerald Eagles at the weekend.

With at least three strike players missing from the Eagles line-up, Tieri held all the cards in the season decider.

Emerald's Tim O'Rouke and a new recruit from Blackwater were the only two players to take goals for the Eagles.

It was not until the second stanza that Emerald started to mark their mark in the match.

"It was a game of two halves," Emerald defender Mario Terranova said.

"We were outplayed in the first half and because of that it was hard to get back in the game.

"They finished their chances and we didn't."

Terranova said their lack of playing depth cost them dearly in the most crucial game of all.

"It made a big difference to the result," he said.

Despite's the best efforts of CQ News' best efforts, Tieri was unavailable for comment.
