Tinto looks to end year on a Bernborough high

TOOWOOMBA Group One mare Tinto gets the chance to add a home-track feature victory to her record when she steps out at tomorrow night's gala Clifford Park New Year's Eve meeting.

This year's Queensland Oaks winner looms as one of the strong fancies in the Listed $175,000 City Of Toowoomba TRC Bernborough Handicap (1625m).

The Bernborough is one of three features events on the seven-race Toowoomba Turf Club program.

A host of leading Queensland two-year-olds will be looking to cement a place in next month's $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast when they meet in the $75,000 Magic Millions QTIS Plate (1050m).

The card also includes the $75,000 Neil Mansell Transport Fillies and Mares Quality Handicap (1200m).

Tinto has drawn barrier one in the 12-horse Bernborough field where she searches for her first victory since capturing the 2400m-metre Oaks for trainer Rex Lipp at Eagle Farm in May.

Oaks winning jockey Tim Bell reunites with the four-year-old tomorrow after apprentice Bridget Grylls partnered her to fast-finishing placings at Doomben in two runs following a five-month spell.

Tinto's Bernborough rivals include topweight Hopfgarten and lightly raced New Zealand mare Tarloshan.

Hopfgarten won this month's Brisbane Handicap (1600m) for trainer Rob Heathcote and Tarloshan captured the Listed Just Now Quality (1350m) at Doomben on the same day.

The Bernborough field includes six Darling Downs-trained horses alongside Tinto.

Premier Clifford Park trainer Ben Currie saddles lightly weighted pair Sigmund and Great Game.

Multiple Clifford Park StrathAyr track winners Equissential and Under The Leaner line up for trainers Neville Saunders and Kevin Kemp respectively.

Toowoomba trainer Tony Sears has the opportunity to add to his winning record in the Clifford Park Fillies and Mares Quality where he'll be represented in this year's event by in-form mare Zaha's Ace.

Zaha's Ace is chasing her fifth successive win after scoring twice at both Clifford Park and Doomben since October.

The two-year-old feature includes the clash of dual winner Frequendly from the Les Ross stable and impressive debut Doomben victor Pepperano for Eagle Farm trainer Liam Birchley.

First race on the program jumps at 5.33pm with the Bernborough set down for 8.35.
