85-year-old astonished by mystery family photo find

A POINT in time that felt like a long-lost memory came flooding back when Wilsonton man Edgar Uebergang stumbled across a family photograph at Copylam Services.

The 85-year-old regularly visits the printing company to collect modified prints of designs he uses to paint cuckoo clocks.

Last week he was in the store chatting to owner Richard Games when something caught his eye.

There, in a "photos left behind" box on the counter, was a photo of Mr Uebergang's family.

"I picked it up then put it down and picked it up again and said to Richard, 'that's my family'," he said.

The photo was of his son, nephew and father-in-law taken near Rockhampton.

"I have no idea how it came to be there - right at the front of the other photos too," he said.

"I've thought it over and over. I didn't even know this photo existed.

"When I saw it, I knew exactly where and when it would have been taken."

Mr Uebergang said he could only assume his brother took the photo but he had passed away many years ago.

He still has no idea how it wound up at Copylam Services.

Mr Games said seeing Mr Uebergang's face was a vision he would not be forgetting any time soon.

"There are so many precious memories in that box - we even have a marriage certificate," he said.

"I'm scared to throw them out just in case."

Mr Games said the box had been with the company for about 12 years.

"It just goes to show you how important printed photographs are," he said.

"It's a trend that's slowly fading out but just look at the memories they hold."
