Toowoomba rock climber found dead
A TOOWOOMBA rock climber missing for five days in Moogerah Peaks National Park has been found dead this morning.
The 34-year-old man was an experienced hiker and climber, was climbing alone on Mount Greville and had been camping in his car at nearby Mount French.
His body was found shortly before 10am. It is believed the man fell to his death while climbing.
Friends and family alerted police on Saturday when the man did not return home from his latest rock climbing trip in the national park.
Helicopters were used to conduct an air search over Mount French and the adjoining Mount Greville peaks on Monday.
A search party including police, State Emergency Service personnel and experienced mountaineers, believed to be close friends of the man, began searching on foot at first light today.
Moogerah Peaks National Park, which is popular among hikers, campers and climbers, is about 100 kilometres southwest of Brisbane, close to the Moogerah Dam.
