Power extends IndyCar lead

TOOWOOMBA'S Will Power secured a third-straight road course championship and extended his lead in the overall drivers' championship with a second placing at today's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Power claimed his third Mario Andretti Road Course Championship by finishing behind Penske team mate Ryan Briscoe, who won his first IndyCar race since 2010 with victory in California this morning (AEST).

Finishing second also saw Power build on his lead at the top of the drivers' championship standings.

Power leads American Ryan Hunter-Reay by 36 points with two races remaining.

The Grand Prix of Baltimore this weekend is the penultimate race of the IndyCar Series.
