Tourist, 63, injured in Gold Coast handbag theft

A 63-year-old Victorian tourist was dragged 20 metres along a Gold Coast road while fighting a bag snatcher yesterday afternoon.

Police said the woman was left bruised, battered and lying in the middle of a Carrara road just after 4pm when she clung to her bag as the thief tried to wrest it from her.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage at a nearby storage facility.

Police said the woman was standing beside a car near a shopping centre in Carrara when a man approached her and told her she had a flat tyre.

When she bent down to inspect it, the man grabbed her handbag, which was slung over her shoulder, and tried to run away.
