EVEN during the winter months Coffs Harbour has proven to be a popular holiday destination.

As school bells toll once again and 40km/h speed zones are back in force, online travel website Wotif.com has released the top five holiday destinations in NSW during the recent school holidays.

Coffs Harbour came in at number five in the state when it came to destinations that wotif.com customers clicked on.

The general manager of wotif.com Brands, Megan Magill, said Sydney is always a school holidays hot spot with plenty of activities to keep both kids and parents occupied but people are still getting out to explore the rest of the state.

"Sydney came up trumps in the number one spot but it seems plenty of people headed for the hills and made the most of the early snow falls these winter holidays, bumping Jindabyne up to second place," Ms Magill said.

"Sun-seekers showed the coastal towns a lot of love with Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour rounding out the rest of the top five spots."

The top five NSW school holiday destinations were:
1. Sydney
2. Jindabyne
3. Newcastle
4. Port Macquarie
5. Coffs Harbour
