Tower Holdings keen to take gamble with casino on GKI

TOWER Holdings is keen to have a casino on Great Keppel Island.

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said she understood the company was pursuing a casino license for the island.

"The team at Tower Holdings is working around the clock at the moment in preparation for a major announcement in a month's time," she said.

"Tower Holdings will be visiting the region in a few weeks' time."

On Wednesday Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney addressed state parliament on the process to develop up to three internationally competitive integrated resort developments, with casinos.

Registrations for the associated gaming licenses closed on Friday, and 19 parties applied.

Seven of those registered interest in resorts in regional Queensland, while the other 12 were interested in developing Queen's Wharf in Brisbane.

Mr Seeney said they recently had a briefing for potential bidders, where they explained they were looking for internationally competitive landmark developments which will have benefits right across the communities they are based in.

The next stage of the process is to lodge expressions of interest, which will need to be accompanied by a $100,000 non-refundable fee. That closes on March 31.

"Our government is looking for projects that will deliver real benefits in terms of boosted construction and hospitality jobs, as well as benefits right across the communities in which they are based," Mr Seeney said.

"The government is making it plain to proponents that we are looking for landmark developments that can be internationally competitive and that will bring clear economic and community benefits to the state."

"The state government is heartened by the response from both national and international corporate major players, but there is a comprehensive process to complete before we have a development."
