Towering question for Hawthorn Hawks

IT might look like a super pairing on paper, but Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has questioned whether twin towers Buddy Franklin and Kurt Tippett will "gel" when they play their first game together.

That could be against the Hawks at ANZ Stadium tonight after the pair both successfully completed training this week.

"The intriguing part about it is we don't know, and neither does Sydney," Clarkson (pictured) said.

"They've never played together before, so that could mean what we get is something that's unbelievable, or it could be that they really battle with it."

Clarkson said Ryan Schoenmakers, who kicked four goals last week in his return from a knee reconstruction, would probably have to play in defence with fullback Brian Lake (calf) sidelined for up to a month.

Fellow defender Ben Stratton, a late withrawal last week due to a corked hip, was on the plane to Sydney.
