Town wants mum’s killer found, brought to justice

GOONDIWINDI residents are anxious to see a killer brought to justice, according to Mayor Graeme Scheu.

A resolution may not be far away, with police officers confident they will have a positive result in their search for the killer of mother-of-three Alexis Jeffery.

The 24-year-old's body was found in the Macintyre River on March 16.

Cr Scheu said residents seemed to understand the need for investigations to be thoroughly completed.

"I think people are quite prepared (to wait) after seeing things like the Daniel Morcombe case and how important it is to have the correct information. They are anxious but I think they are keen to see a conviction come about properly."

Former champion boxer Daniel Rowsell, from Boggabilla, was reportedly with Ms Jeffery and person of interest Robert Trebeck on the last night she was seen alive.

According to a report, Mr Rowsell had dropped $20 into Ms Jeffery's lap and told her to get a taxi home before Mr Trebeck indicated he had been "tuning" her on social media for a couple of weeks.

The report said Mr Rowsell then gave Mr Trebeck a lift up the street to drop him off to where Ms Jeffery had walked away.

Darling Downs District Crime Group officer Detective Acting Inspector Paul Hart said police were satisfied their investigation was moving in the right direction.

He confirmed police had previously spoken with Mr Rowsell in the investigation.

"Local detectives are still actively engaged with the Homicide Investigation Unit and a number of avenues of inquiry continue to be explored," Det Act Insp Hart said.

"In recent weeks there has been significant progress in terms of the forensic results we are receiving back."

"We are confident that we are heading towards a positive result."
