Trapped miner freed at Oaky Creek Mine

A MINER trapped underground at Glencore's Oaky Creek Mine was bought to the surface with leg injuries this afternoon.

Emergency crews on site were mobilised when the incident happened shortly before midday.

A doctor from Emerald Hospital was also dispatched to the mine, near Tieri.

The miner, whose age was unknown, was treated on site.

His condition was unknown.

UPDATE

At 3.55pm, a Glencore spokesman confirmed that an underground mineworker has been injured in an incident at the Oaky North operation early in the afternoon.

"The employee was treated by ambulance crews and doctors at the mine site before being taken to hospital by helicopter," the spokesman said.

"Operations at the mine have stopped and an investigation into the incident is underway."
