Two men killed in truck crash
THE Bruce Highway south of Maryborough is still closed following a horror car crash this morning.
Two men died after their semi trailer smashed into guard rails on the Gympie Road overpass about 8.20am.
The cabin of the truck was left dangling from the Gympie Road overpass at Tinana after the accident.
One of the men is believed to have died shortly after the crash.
The male driver of the truck was alive for some time but died before paramedics could reach him.
Emergency services said it was one of the most difficult recovery operations they had seen in decades.
Acting superintendent Daryl Powell said in all his policing history he has never seen a recovery operation as precarious as this.
The Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Martin Kelly said an intensive care paramedic was sent up in a cherry picker to get into the cabin, which is about five and half metres off the ground.
The paramedic confirmed both men were dead.
The engine block and the fibreglass hood of the truck are all that is keeping the truck in position.
The recovery operation is fraught with difficulty because the truck could collapse at any point.
