Truckie on bail and waiting for sentence over fatality
A TRUCK driver involved in a fatal crash on the Pacific Highway at Tabbimoble last year will be sentenced in the District Court.
Craig Lambert appeared via video link in Lismore Local Court from Sydney last week facing a charge of dangerous driving occasioning death.
Police allege on March 27, Lambert was driving a Hino truck north on the highway when he collided with a southbound VW Passat.
The driver of the VW, Douglas Hyde, 62 of Frenchs Forest, in Sydney's northern suburbs, died in a Gold Coast hospital on March 31, from injuries sustained in the crash.
Mr Lambert, 42, was breath tested and returned a negative reading following the crash before he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
The court heard the defence had been negotiating about police facts in the matter for more than three months, with several adjournments granted.
"It's a waste of my time and a waste of yours," Magistrate David Heilpern told Mr Lambert's solicitor Ms Maranga.
After Ms Maranga liaised with her client over the facts she said the matter was ready to proceed.
"Do you accept those facts on the basis of a plea of guilty?" Mr Heilpern asked Ms Maranga.
"Yes your honour," Ms Maranga replied.
Magistrate Heilpern committed Mr Lambert to the Lismore District Court for sentencing on March 17.
Ms Maranga requested a full pre sentence report be ordered on Mr Lambert.
He remains free on bail until sentencing.
