YOUR STORY is your forum to debate a local issue, celebrate the success, share something special, or just get something off your chest.

Here's Burrum Heads woman Barbara Watts' story:

"Our day started out like any other early morning paddling session recently until we heard a lady on her paddle board calling out to us that she could see a large turtle had entangled itself in rope and was dragging a buoy.

"The turtle was struggling, coming up for breath then disappearing with the strong current.

"We followed it all over the Burrum River for more than an hour. Eventually we managed to manoeuvre our canoe into position with the buoy bobbing alongside so we could grab the rope.

"We then cut three layers of rope from the turtle's neck and multiple layers from around his flipper.

"We all felt ecstatic when it swam off knowing that we had freed a healthy turtle.

"It even took a breath close by like he was looking back to thank us.

"Well done to our OC6 crew members Rowena Shaw, Janella Anderson, David Paterson, Barb Watts and Betty Scorey (along) with Dave Watts on the single V1 and our visiting paddle boarder Alex Curtis."
