Using Twitter to get fitter

SAVVY social networking fans can get fitter using Twitter.

One of the most common ways to destroy weight loss is the dreaded snack attack, where die-hard diet fans pack on the kilos through constant trips to the biscuit barrel.

The majority of snacking takes place in secret ninja style, but the new Twitter craze of Tweet What You Eat threatens to end this trend and show the world exactly what people eat.

Tweet What You Eat is a virtual food diary linked to the popular social networking site Twitter.

Twitters can log on and record everything they consume in the hopes that seeing it on screen and sharing it with the entire Twitterverse will encourage them to be more aware of their food choices.

Accredited practicing dietician and accredited exercise physiologist Chloe McKenna from Great Ideas in Nutrition said keeping a food diary was a step in the right direction when it came to healthy living.

“Certainly keeping a food diary is a great idea to help you keep track of what you eat,” Ms McKenna said.

“Honesty is one of the most important things when it comes to food diaries but the diary should be for you and with the online diaries there is the possibility of negative comments.

“It is important to consult a health care professional when dieting.”

Head personal trainer at One Life Tweed Heads Ben Walker said Tweet What You Eat would help users to track their progress.

“It’s a good nutritional tool, it will help people see when they are improving, it’s so important to eat well and exercise for your overall health,” Mr Walker said.

The site, has a feature that calculates the energy intake in popular foods.
