101 year-old woman dies in horrific highway smash

A 101-YEAR-old woman has died and six other people, including two young children, are injured following a horror three-car crash on the Tablelands.

Emergency services have closed the Kennedy Highway in both directions after the vehicles collided near the O'Neil Cl intersection at Koah about 11.15am.

The woman, aged 101, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a female toddler, male child, two women and a man were among the other people injured.

The Cairns Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

A police spokeswoman said police and emergency services are working to treat those injured and clear the road however investigations are expected to extend well into the afternoon.

Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are being diverted around the crash scene via Palm Valley Road to the north and Koah Road to the south.

Motorists are urged to take extreme care on our roads, be patient and avoid travel if possible.

In the state's southeast, a man has died and another person has been rushed to hospital after a horror crash at Wooroolin, north of Kingaroy.

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle rollover at the intersection of Hunselys Rd and Obels Rd about 3am.

Police have confirmed the 30-year-old male driver of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

Paramedics also assessed two male passengers - one has since been taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit have been called in to investigate the incident.
