Two for the price of one

NANANGO got a two-for-one deal when they needed a new officer in charge at the town's police station.

Sergeant Brett Smith took up the post at the station about three weeks ago and his wife, Lisa, serves as a paramedic with Queensland Ambulance Service.

The couple moved from Northern Queensland.

"It's hard getting used to the cold weather again," Sgt Smith said.

"I think we had one day of winter up north and it only got down to 10 degrees."

The countryside and community is familiar as both officers previously worked in the area.

"From our time at Blackbutt and Murgon we've still got life-long friends."

"Our first day back here, friends from Blackbutt dropped off flowers to welcome us. These are people we haven't seen for 15 years."

It's the close relationships that added to the appeal of the Nanango posting.

"We'd rather work a small town than a city any day because you get to start a job, work in the job and finalise the job."

"The expectations are a lot different here compared to the city because we have that one-on-one contact.

"We pride ourselves on being parts of the community, we like getting out there and joining groups."
