BP bandits rounded up and charged for crimes

THE armed robbers that held up an Eastern Heights service station on Monday morning have been arrested and charged.

Shane Chapman, 43, from Pine Mountain and Brassall's Jordan Anderson, 18, have been charged with armed robbery and other offences after the incident at 2.45am at the BP service station on Robertson Rd.

The two men were refused bail and will remain in custody until they appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on January 28.

Using CCTV footage as evidence, it will be alleged that Chapman was armed with a firearm and stole cigarettes while Anderson went to the counter and demanded cash from the service station attendant.

The footage shows the service station attendant vacuuming when he looks up towards the men who were at the glass door of the building.

It is understood the gun was pointed at the attendant who let the offenders in while fearing for his life.

Inspector Keith McDonald said "the attendant did the right thing" considering the circumstances.

"This had every possibility of being quite a serious incident because of the behaviour of these two offenders," he said.

"It had the potential to go bad in a terrible way.

"The offenders had every intention to get what they wanted - which was money and cigarettes - and they were going to stop at nothing."

CCTV footage of the incident appeared on TV and in the QT and a relative of Chapman saw it and took him to the Ipswich police station.

Anderson was located through what Insp McDonald called "good police work" and was rounded up at a Brassall residence.
