'TWU calls off strike'

THE Transport Workers Union (TWU) has called off its nationwide industrial action scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Qantas says.

The TWU had planned one-hour stoppages on Tuesday at Brisbane and Melbourne airport (both beginning at 8am AEDT).

A three-hour stoppage had been planned for Sydney Airport on Wednesday has been called off, as were one-hour stoppages for Canberra and Cairns airports on the same day.

Qantas announced on Sunday that the union had contacted the airline to say the industrial action had been called off.

"We welcome the cancellation of strikes and will continue meeting with the TWU in an attempt to resolve the ongoing pay dispute," a Qantas spokesman said.
