Uber driver denies deprivation of liberty

A BRISBANE Uber driver who allegedly trapped a woman inside his car has pleaded not guilty.

Umar Subi Gammeda, 45, from Logan Central, has been charged with deprivation of liberty, after he picked a woman up in his car at Paddington last month and allegedly refused to release her.

The woman had asked Gammeda to take her to a Fortitude Valley bar in what should have been a 10-minute trip.

But police allege Gammeda drove her around Brisbane for more than an hour before he continued down the Clem 7 tunnel in a "concerning manner".

Gammeda faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

His lawyer said he would fight the charge.

He will appear in court again later this year.
