Eungella resident: UFO ‘could be Chinese lanterns’
A EUNGELLA resident has provided a likely theory of what may have caused the UFO sightings at the Pioneer Valley.
The mother of two, who only moved to Eungella on Saturday, let off two Chinese lanterns on Sunday evening about 6pm to celebrate the family's new home.
"I know it was about 6pm because I was going crook at the kids because they hadn't had their baths yet," she said.
"We have had the lanterns for a while...they just went forever when they got going."
The launch of the lanterns coincides with video footage captured of unidentified objects flying west over the Pioneer Valley.
The video was filmed by Wendy Storer and has since been shared more than 1000 times on Facebook.
Although Chinese lanterns seem to be the most likely cause of the burning lights, many eyewitnesses dismissed the claims, saying the lights they saw were far too big to be lanterns.

This isn't the first time Mackay has been rocked by a seemingly extraterrestrial event.
In the mid 1960s patrons drinking at the Retreat Hotel, which is about 65kms west of Mackay, claim to have seen a UFO landing outside the pub.
Current Retreat Hotel manager Marie West said a historic report hanging on the hotel's wall said three patrons claimed to have seen a cigar-shaped object land about 100 metres away from the hotel.
"When police investigated they found the trees and ground around the spot they said it had landed was burnt," she said.
"It says it depends on who you speak to on how many beers the witnesses had had that night and what they exactly saw."
